5 Beauty Ideas for Christmas

It’s almost that time of the year we’ve all been waiting patiently for. Whilst there may be a lack of office parties and celebrations, it’s still a great time to experiment with some festive looks. Here are some of our favourite nail and eye trends to give you that extra holiday shine.

Metallic Gold Eyes

Ready to step up the shine? Here’s a makeup idea for Christmas. A statement gold metallic eye can lift your look from desk to (zoom) party. Mixing your favourite metallic powder with a mixing liquid will give you a super smooth application which will last all day and night.

Disco Liner

One of our favourite Christmas makeup looks. Add some sass to your look with a disco liner paired with a bold red lip. You can use a silver glitter liner and top with a few stick-on crystals for extra shine.

Christmas Tree Nails

If you’ve run out of things to decorate this year, why not add some extra sparkle to your manicure. How about Christmas nails? Start with a bold green glitter varnish, or top your favourite green shade with a couple of different clear glitter polish for added texture and shine.

Glossy Eyes

If you’re not one for eyeshadow, you can add some glow by using a clear gloss on your eyes. You can add a little glitter for added sparkle, and pair with a burgundy lip for a more dramatic look. And your Christmas party makeup look is ready.

Gold French Tips

If you want to keep things subtle for your holiday nails, switch up your classic french mani for a shiny gold version.

We offer a range of nail and makeup appointments to see you through the festive season. To book your treatment, download our app or book online and save £10 on your first treatment with the code NEW10.

Brazilian Blow Dry Keratin Treatment Review – All You Need to Know

You may have already heard of the frizz-fighting Keratin blow dry, but is it right for you? Read on for everything you need to know before booking your appointment.

What is a Keratin blow dry treatment?

Keratin blow dry treatment is a chemical treatment in which a special formula containing keratin and a range of proteins is used to coat the hair. The formula is worked into your hair using the heat from a blow dryer and straightening irons. This provides an overall improved sleekness and shine. It helps to improve the condition of damaged or overly treated hair and provides you with better manageability. A keratin blow dry treatment is not a straightening treatment, but it does make straightening and styling your hair much easier.

What does a Keratin treatment do?

A Keratin treatment will smooth your hair and make it appear healthier and less damaged. It will relax your curl pattern if you have curly hair and provide a sleek finish to frizzy, straight hair.

The procedure – what to expect

Your Sparista will begin with an individual consultation about your hair condition and desired look. They will then proceed with washing hair with clarifying shampoo followed by application of the Keratin product. After a 20-30min soak, your Sparista will complete the treatment with a blow dry and straighten.

To prepare, simply lay out a couple of towels, and choose a comfortable area to sit near an electrical socket.

Please avoid washing hair or visiting steam rooms or saunas for 72 hours. Our expert stylists work with a selection of approved premium brands such as Coco Choco, Perola and Acai Professional.

Is the Keratin treatment for curly hair?

Keratin treatment is suitable for curly hair. While the treatment itself will not straighten your curls, it will relax your curl pattern so it is looser, less coarse, and easier to style.

Is the Keratin treatment for frizzy straight hair?

Keratin treatment is suitable for frizzy, straight hair. It will provide a smoother finish to hair, making it sleeker and easier to manage.

How long does a Keratin treatment last?

A Keratin blow dry treatment can last for up to three months; however, you will begin to notice your hair becoming frizzy again at around the ten-week mark.

How to wash hair after Keratin treatment

After you have had a Keratin treatment, you must not wash your hair for three days. Once the three days have passed, you are free to wash and style your hair as you like. However, using a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner will maintain the sleek finish of the treatment for longer.

How much is a keratin hair treatment?

The Brazilian Keratin blow dry treatment is offered from £120, however, the cost will depend on the length of your hair.

You can book a Keratin treatment or find out more about our other hair services here. To book your appointment, download our app or book online and save £10 on your first treatment with the code NEW10.

How to prevent & treat face mask skin problems

This year has seen a new addition to our wardrobes – with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we are all masking up. When we first started wearing masks, little did we know that they would soon become as essential as remembering your car keys and wallet. Now we all have a range of masks to choose from in our daily lives, but we are encountering a whole new problem.

We are suffering from skincare issues caused by our masks. Known informally as “maskne”, this phenomenon can really leave you feeling less than confident – and might make you want to hide under your mask full time.

Don’t despair! Read on for our handy hints to help reduce maskne, and how to look after your skin whilst wearing a mask.

Why is my mask causing skin issues?

One of the main problems caused by regular and continued mask-wearing is dry skin. Our faces are not used to being constantly covered. With winter on the horizon, this is only set to get worse. Breathing into your mask can also cause moisture to gather, causing chafing and dry patches and sometimes spots around the chin and jawline.

Skin care for mask wear

In order to combat the effects of wearing your mask so regularly and treat face mask skin problems, you will need to simplify your skincare routine with a couple of essential steps.

Deep cleansing is essential after a day of mask-wearing, so we recommend a two-step cleansing process. Start by using an oil-based cleansing balm with warm water and a flannel to melt away any excess dirt, makeup or SPF. Then repeat the process with a hydrating cleanser, ensuring to massage gently into the face and neck.

Keep your skin hydrated with a serum containing hyaluronic acid, followed by a light gel-based moisturiser to keep your skin soft. If you are prone to spots, avoid any heavy, oil-based products. Keeping your skincare focused on cleansing and hydrating will reduce any irritations caused by mask-wearing.

Makeup under your mask

Keep your makeup as light as possible, and avoid heavy foundation (as the trapped impurities can clog your pores). Use a small amount of concealer if any coverage is needed, and keep the focus to your eyes. Now is a good time to experiment with new eyeshadow colours and liners.

Most importantly, in order to prevent face mask skin problems, you will also want to wash your mask regularly, preferably after each use and always wash or sanitize your hands before touching your mask.

Take special care of your skin and enjoy the variety of masks available – stay safe every day and your skin should be feeling sparkly again in no time.

Private Yoga Sessions at Home – All You Need to Know

Missing your yoga classes? Good news! You can now book private yoga sessions at home on the USPAAH app оr directly online with some of London’s most skilled instructors. We spoke with two of our expert yogis, Carola and Vanessa, on the benefits of private yoga sessions vs studio classes, and what you can expect from your first session…

What are the benefits of taking a private yoga session at home?

Carola: “No time gets wasted in commuting, the class starts when it is the most convenient for you. You can try different instructors in the convenience of your living room. Studios can be scary places, especially for beginners, lots of competition and teachers cannot give complete attention to 10+ students, with different bodies, abilities and fitness.”

What can you expect in a private yoga session?

Vanessa : “You can expect a really great experience catered specifically to your needs. If you have back problems, we can do a sequence to help that, if you’re a little more tired that day, we can make the class more gentle. You can expect to finish feeling relaxed and revitalised.”

What’s the difference to a regular yoga class?

Carola: “In a regular class, the teacher has to teach a diverse pool of students without having the time and the attention to give personalised instructions. Often classes in London are open-level which can make it frustrating for both beginners and experienced practitioners. Beginners may struggle to keep up and advanced practitioners may feel stagnant or stuck in their practice.”

What more can you achieve with private yoga sessions?

Carola: “Private classes are bespoke – you choose which areas of the body to focus on, how long you’d like your relaxation, if you’d like some breath work or mediation or if you’d like to work on a particular posture (asana).”

Are private yoga sessions suitable for all levels?

Vanessa: “Yes, private lessons are perfect for all levels because we can adapt the class especially for you/the client. There can be a continuous conversation through the class, if necessary, to make sure we are working at your appropriate level at all times.”

What are the health benefits of yoga?

Carola: “The benefits depend on your expectation and motivations for practising. Many people start practising to improve flexibility and strength or to wind down after a busy day.

Students within 4/5 sessions feel something changing in their bodies. They feel healthier and fitter. Some feel calmer and more relaxed. After a few months of practice, some start feeling some changes in the way they think: they feel more focused and less agitated by the ups and downs of life.

Research has found that yoga can help with innumerable ailments, both physical and mental: from reducing blood pressure to improving bone density; from coping with anxiety to healing trauma.

For some, yoga becomes a lifestyle and opens the door to higher consciousness. It is up to you what yoga can give you.”

Carola Chiarpenello (left) is a Power, Vinyasa & Yin Yoga Instructor, and Vanessa Page (right) specialises in Hatha & Vinyasa Yoga. You can book them for a private session via the USPAAH app now.

Which Type of Yoga is Right for Me?

The great thing about yoga is that there is no one-size-fits-all. Whatever your experience or ability, there is a style out there which will suit you.

There are, however, a variety of styles available, so before booking your first session it’s a good idea to research which one is right for you so you find a practice that will help you reach your goals.

There are a few things which remain consistent, for example:

– Most classes last between 45 and 90 minutes
– Yoga can be enjoyed by people of all ages, body types and levels of experience
– Yoga is most beneficial when practised routinely

Yoga is an amazingly beneficial practice for people of all ages and abilities. Whether you’re a pro, or on the cusp of attempting yoga for the very first time, there’s a style for you.

Before you start, it’s useful to understand what you’d like to achieve from the practice. For example, the type of movements you want to attempt, how frequently you’d like to do it, and how you would like to be taught. This way, you’ll get the absolute most out of it.

Which type of yoga should I practise?

We’ll focus on four particular yoga types, highlighting the associated benefits and what you can expect:

Hatha yoga (for beginners)

This is arguably the perfect introduction to yoga. Though it can indeed be beneficial to intermediate and long-term yoga practitioners, it is quite gentle, and therefore ideal for beginners. After an initial assessment to help you better understand your capabilities, you will be taught the basic yoga poses and will learn how they can benefit your body.

Ashtanga posture sequence yoga

This particular type of yoga is one that can be enjoyed and appreciated by yogis of all ages and abilities. A modern adaptation of classical Indian yoga, Ashtanga has been designed to be both energetic and precise, giving practitioners the opportunity to discover their own level of ability and adjust the difficulty of the moves accordingly.

Vinyasa fast flow power yoga

As the name would suggest, this type of yoga is dynamic, invigorating and energetic. Following a consultation session with your yoga teacher to better understand your level of experience and the condition of one’s body, you will be shown the various movements and postures and will understand how to use them in sequence. It is worth noting that this particular type of yoga is relatively intense and involves lots of movement, so tends not to be viable for those who would still consider themselves beginners.

Pilates strength and stability

A different activity than yoga, but with many of the same roots, Pilates is designed predominantly to strengthen one’s core and enhance your body’s ability to cope with strain. A first Pilates class will generally involve an assessment of your physical condition – both for the benefit of you and your instructor – and an introduction to the primary exercises that will be used throughout the first class and beyond.

USPAAH now offers private yoga & pilates sessions at home. Book online or via the USPAAH app. For £15 off your first session use the code YOGA15 at checkout.

What Are The Benefits of Regular Facial Treatments

We asked a few of our expert facialists some of your most asked questions. In our previous post we discussed: How Often Should You Get a Professional Facial. Now, here’s what they have to say on the benefits of regular treatments:

Why Should You Get a Facial Treatment Regularly?

Vanessa Artunduaga

Ekaterina Fadeeva says: “There are a lot of benefits to getting a regular facial! Thanks to deep cleansing and improved blood circulation, a facial helps to detoxify the skin, slow the ageing process, and can also reduce stress and bring general rejuvenation. In specific cases, it can treat acne, acne marks or hyperpigmentation.”

Vanessa Artunduaga also adds: “Having a regular facial improves the circulation of the lymphatic system in the face, therefore, our skin could appear glowing, younger and fresher.”

Sabrina Fabbo explains: “The benefits of getting a regular facial are completely up to you. If you have a good skincare base at home, you would be able to keep up its glowing condition for longer. It is as simple as that.”

2. Different Facial Treatment Types – Can you advise which skin type would suit the purifying and anti-aging facial treatment?

Ekaterina Fadeeva - Uspaah Mobile Facial Therapist
Ekaterina Fadeeva

Ekaterina Fadeeva says: “Actually, any skin type could have a purifying or anti-ageing treatment. Both facial treatments are not based on the skin type, but of the skin condition. For example, I would recommend the anti-ageing treatment for more mature and dehydrated skin, even if the skin is dry, oily, sensitive or normal. I’ll need then to adjust my treatment for the specific skin type of the client.”

Vanessa Artunduaga adds: “I would recommend a purifying facial when the skin tends to be more oily or have breakouts/ blackheads and needs a deep cleanse”

How Often Should You Get a Professional Facial

We put forward a few of your most asked questions to our expert Facialists. Here’s what they have to say:

1. How often would you recommend having a facial treatment?

Ekaterina Fadeeva

Ekaterina Fadeeva: “The frequency of a facial may depend on the specific concern that is being treated, but generally I would recommend once every three/four weeks. That’s how long your skin’s life cycle is and cells of your epidermis layer take to grow back. Having a proper facial helps this process of renewal and ensures your skin is always glowing.”

Sabrina Fabbo:“If you have normal to combination skin then once every 3/4 weeks would work. If you have a great skincare routine at home then once every 6 weeks would work. The best way to understand this is to speak to a professional facialist who will guide you through the process.”

2. What Does a facial  include? What are the steps of a facial treatment?

Sabrina Fabbo

Sabrina Fabbo: “We would first analyse the skin to see what type of facial and products are required. Generally, the first step of a facial treatment is cleansing; this procedure is done twice so that we can guarantee a clean face surface. Toner is done a few times which ensures we wipe any dirt or cream residue. Exfoliation is done in circular movements and is used on normal to dry skin. A scrub may be used on oily skin which helps the steamer to penetrate under the layer of the skin.

The steamer is next and is key for a good facial treatment as it will help to open the pores, and depending on your skin type it can last between 10 – 15 minutes. Once the skin is wet it means it is ready to start the extraction. The extraction can be done using hands or a tool and is very gentle and won’t be as bad as you think. It is then followed by a mask and moisturiser/oils and serum with a facial massage to lock in moisture.”

Ekaterina Fadeeva: “Any facial treatment should always start with a consultation with the client. After that, the therapist starts with the procedure as mentioned above. The best part, according to most of the clients, is the facial massage, to relax and stimulate the skin and facial muscles by using different techniques.”

Eyebrow threading, waxing or plucking: which is best?

Brows have never been more important. Gone are the days of tweezing out a few stray hairs at home; there are now a wide variety of eyebrow treatments available to help you achieve preened but fuller-looking brows for ultimate #Browsonfleek. If you’re looking to book in with a brow expert but are unsure whether to get your eyebrows threaded or waxed, here is a quick guide to the eyebrow treatments on offer so you can choose the right method for you.

What is eyebrow threading?

Threading is a method of hair removal that dates back to ancient times. After cleansing the skin, your therapist will twist a piece of thread over your skin to remove hairs from the follicle. It’s a precise method, so it usually takes a little longer than waxing and, due to this, some seem to find it a touch more painful. However, it is completely tolerable.

What is eyebrow waxing?

In a waxing treatment, a thin layer of warm wax is applied to the hairs that will be removed. A piece of waxing paper is gently pressed on to allow the hairs to stick. When this is removed, the hairs are pulled from their follicles. This treatment is very quick as it allows larger areas of hair to be removed at any one time.

What is eyebrow plucking?

Probably the method most of us are familiar with, plucking is just removing hairs one by one using a pair of tweezers. Although it seems like a simple method, it should always be left to professionals who can carefully map out your ideal brow shape.

Which is right for me?

Eyes and Brows

Before any of the above methods are undertaken, your therapist should offer you a consultation to establish exactly what eyebrow look you are hoping to achieve. The look you want may automatically determine which hair removal method you go for. If it’s just a tidy up of a few stray hairs, plucking is probably your best bet. Threading or waxing for eyebrows can both be used to create or define your shape. However, threading is the more precise version of the two as it picks up all those fair, fluffy hairs for a smoother finish. Some people find their skin to be sensitive to wax, so if you struggle with sensitivity, let your therapist know, and you can opt for a threading treatment instead. No matter which treatment you choose, your results should last 4-6 weeks (depending on your natural rate of hair growth).

If you’re ready to book in for your brow appointment, you can do so online or via the USPAAH app.

Autumn 2020 Nail Trends

Here’s all the inspiration you need for your next mani appointment.

The days are getting shorter and the sun is becoming a rare treat, which means the Autumn season is coming.

Whilst we’ve loved embracing pastel, white and coral colours this summer, we can’t deny that we’re excited for some warmer shades for the pumpkin spice season. To help you with your next mani appointment, here are 5 of our favourite Autumn nail trends.

Dark Green

Whilst it’s not a traditional nail colour, the forest green shade works perfectly for the Autumn months and works especially well with a glossy finish.

All the Reds

If you struggle picking the perfect shade of red, why not choose 5 different shades? We love this tonal rainbow using warm reds.

Alternative French Tips

These pumpkin spice shades work perfectly as french tips and can be achieved using a sticky stencil or tape cut into the right size for each nail.

Blush Tones

Create a rainbow with your favourite neutral shades. If you’re a nude girl through and through but want to mix it up a little, this is a great alternative for you.

Sage Green

If you prefer the lighter colours, this sage green is pastel perfect as it still feels suitable for the colder months.

If you’re interested in trying something new for your next mani, book your nails at home appointment via our website at uspaah.com or download our app. New customers can even save £10 on their first treatment with discount code NEW10.
